Asbestos
Vieau Associates assists their wide client base by helping to interact with the regulatory agencies and interpret the various regulations to achieve a cost effective and timely solution to all their asbestos issues. The Vieau Associates employees that deal with asbestos have obtained and maintain all the necessary certifications to deal with any asbestos situation.
Vieau Associates provides the following asbestos services:
- Comprehensive asbestos building surveys for daily operations, renovation or demolition activities,
- Preparation of asbestos abatement specifications,

- Asbestos abatement contract administration,
- Asbestos abatement contractor oversight,
- Asbestos abatement air monitoring and sample analysis,
- Preparation of asbestos Operations and Maintenance (O&M) Programs,
- MDH certified asbestos training,
- Asbestos awareness training and
- Asbestos O&M training.
In order to conduct these services Vieau Associates personnel have developed a working knowledge of the following Federal and State regulations:
- The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) established the Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA) (40 CFR Part 763) to address asbestos in schools and the National Emissions Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants (NESHAP) (40 CFR Chapter 61, Subpart M) to minimize the release of asbestos fibers.
- The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) developed Asbestos Standards for the Construction Industry (29 CFR 1910.1101) and for General Industry (29 CFR 1910.1001) to protect workers from asbestos exposure.
- The Department of Transportation (DOT) established 49 CFR Vol. 2 Ch. I Subtitle B Parts 100 to 185 to regulate the transportation of hazardous materials, which includes asbestos.
- The Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) Asbestos Unit utilizes Minnesota Rules Parts 4620.3000 - 4620.3724 and Trade Regulations/Consumer Protection Asbestos Abatement Act Minnesota Statute Section 326.70 - 326.81 to regulate activities which disturb asbestos, such as sampling of suspect asbestos containing materials and abatement of asbestos containing materials.
- The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency's (MPCA) Asbestos Division enforces federal EPA Regulations in Minnesota and has prepared numerous guidance documents to assist individuals and companies when dealing with asbestos materials.
