Voluntary Investigation and Cleanup

Many property owners and developers are apprehensive or unwilling to purchase properties with known or suspected contamination issues and believe that by purchasing a contaminated property or disturbing contamination during development, they could become liable under state or federal Superfund laws for cleanup costs, despite not being the original responsible parties for the contamination.

Where others might see known or suspect contamination issues as an obstacle to their project objectives, Vieau Associates views these circumstances as an opportunity to protect our client's interests by acquiring liability assurances from regulatory agencies, securing cleanup grant funds, mitigating environmental impairment, and ultimately bringing contaminated properties back into productive use.

Vieau Associates has assisted a diverse client base seeking to voluntarily investigate or cleanup contaminated properties.  Our proficiency in the applications of risk based site characterization and corrective action criteria, coupled with a solid understanding of the project objectives, ensures that recommended investigation and cleanup goals are meaningful and achievable.

Our voluntary investigation and cleanup services include:

  • Program enrollment applications, regulatory communications, and analysis of proposed actions.
  • Site investigation, risk-based site characterization and remedy selection.
  • Response Action Plans, Construction Contingency Plans, and supporting documents for cleanup grant applications.
  • Cleanup project management, environmental monitoring, and documentation.
  • Acquisition of written liability assurances from the regulatory agencies (i.e. No Association and No Action Letters).
